Michael Hakim Week 8 - Phone Addiction
I, like many of the other teenagers of today’s world, am addicted to my phone. Recently, my addiction has gotten really bad, though. Everywhere I go, I need to have my phone. Every single day it feels like I am on it more and more and more. When I wake up, the very first thing I do is check my phone. When I’m brushing my teeth, I turn on music to listen to. This pattern continues on throughout the day.
When I’m at school, the urge to go on my phone is higher than ever. Sitting in class with my phone constantly buzzing in my pocket is a real test of my self-control and discipline. I would put my phone on Do Not Disturb, but I refuse because if I do that, then I won’t be able to stay in the loop. I have found that when I don’t have my phone I get extremely restless and even anxious at times, and I don’t know why. This never used to happen to me, and has only started occurring in the last few months.
Honestly, I am not mad at myself for my addiction. I can’t blame myself for wanting to use a device that connects me to the rest of the world. I have found that when I don’t have my phone, I feel lonely, as it feels like I can’t connect with people. I think my phone addiction is less of a phone addiction and more of an addiction to staying in the loop. I constantly feel like I need to check my phone so that I always know what is going on or if any of my friends or family texted me.
This is the generation we are in. Though some may not like it, this is a new reality. Phones really are awesome things, though it is undoubtedly important to keep phone use under control.
Are you addicted to your phone like me? How often do you use your phone?
If I am going to be completely honest, I am definitely addicted to my phone. I hate to admit it because I know being addicted to anything is not healthy. I use my phone way too often. I do agree with you though, I really do not blame myself for being so addicted to my phone. My phone, like you said, connects my with the rest of the world, and without it I feel disconnected from everyone and lonely.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely addicted to my phone just like you are. I am on my phone constantly, it really is a problem. I don’t love the fact that this is how the world is, but I have come to terms with it because everyone is like this and just like you said to stay in the loop you have to keep using your phone. Once again I don’t love it, but this is how it is nowadays. I use my phone way too often and I agree with what you said about keeping phone use under control. There is nothing we can really do but to find time in the day to separate ourselves from technology, give ourselves a break because science research even shows that eyesight is getting worse and this technology can be dangerous.
