Ariella Green Week 8: Anti-Hero
Ariella Green Week 8: Anti-Hero
As I’m sure some of you know, especially Rosalie, that Taylor Swift just released her tenth album titled Midnights. Midnights is an album with songs that she wrote when she couldn’t sleep at night whether it was due to her mental health or her relationships. Swift has spent so much time working on and planning this album, specifically the day it was released and even the easter eggs she placed in the music videos. I know a few Taylor Swift songs here and there, but I am not an expert or a die hard Swiftie fan. However, after hearing the sound “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me” trend on Tik Tok, I had to listen to the original song which is “Anti-Hero” and the leading single of the album.
Upon first hearing the song, I fell in love with the beat, especially the vibe. The song’s genre is classified as synth-pop with consistent percussion of drums and repetitive electronic beats. Not only is this song being well received by the public, but Swift admits that this song is “one of [her] favorite songs [she’s] ever written” and I think agree with her because of how real and personal she gets with us. We all can relate to the insecurities mentioned in the song.
Some of the insecurities Swift sang were her fears is people leaving her and "One day, [she’ll] watch as you're leaving / 'Cause you got tired of [her] scheming (For the last time)." This line is followed by the chorus because Swift constantly feels like she’s always the problem and she is struggling with her self worth. The music video was written and directed by her and in the video, she has two versions of herself; the party Taylor with an abundance of energy, and the more quiet, less social Taylor. As seen in the video, party Taylor can drink a lot and knows how to keep her heart safe. Also, in the music video, she shares that she’s struggled with her body image by weighing herself on a scale, and by scaling herself as being much larger than the others. Taylor Swift is 5 '11 and that is above average for both men and women. I am not tall, but I can sympathize with her problems because clothes fit you differently when you’re taller and when finding a partner, they may be intimidated by your height.
Question: Have you listened to the album/song yet?
