Rosalie Weiss- Week 5- Why I Love Fall

Fall, otherwise known as autumn, is the season between summer and winter, beginning in late September and ending in late December. It is the time when the temperature decreases and the leaves change color and begin to fall. It is also my favorite season.

In South Florida, where the leaves don't change color, the only way to tell when fall has begun, aside from looking at a calendar, is when you feel that difference in the atmosphere. The air becomes cold and has a distinct, familiar smell. This cooling of the temperature also marks the shifting of time, as, to me, fall symbolizes a new beginning, marking both the start of a new school year and a new Jewish year.

Along with Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, fall has arguably the best holidays of any season, the most notable being Halloween. Whether trick or treating, dressing up, carving pumpkins, eating candy, watching scary movies, or experiencing the spooky vibes, Halloween has something for everyone to enjoy. Another great fall holiday is Thanksgiving, where we set aside time to be thankful, visit with family and friends, and enjoy a delicious meal.

Another thing I love about fall is its warm and cozy vibes. Something about fall makes me want to go on walks, drink tea, read books, watch Gilmore Girls, listen to Folklore and Evermore, paint, light a candle, or just sit outside and enjoy nature. Fall is also great for fashion, as the weather is perfect for scarves, flannels, sweaters, and cardigans, some of my favorite articles of clothing.

While I enjoy and appreciate the other seasons, fall is hands down my favorite. What do you think? What is your favorite season?

  1. While I'm definitely a summer person I do love the Florida fall. In New York I loved the scenery but I did not like the 50 degree weather. I love the low 70s here, as it is my favorite temperature, and the breeze along with the holidays during this time of year makes this season really enjoyable.

  2. I agree, the fall is a good season. I think it has the best holidays, and that first time of the year where stepping outside isn't like a heatwave is so nice. For me though, my favorite season is the winter because of the cold temperatures. However, this is likely due to being cold-deprived in Florida, and if I moved north, my opinion would probably change.

  3. I used to love fall when I lived in Chicago because I was able to wear hoodies and sweatpants without being too cold or too hot, but now that I live in Florida fall kind of lost that special "hoodie season" that came with the season. Now I think I like the winter in Florida the most because it bring the hoodie weather with it.
