Michael Hakim Week 5 - The Best Drink on Earth

      Ahhh… Starbucks - there really is nothing quite like it. Well, I mean, technically there are, but none of them are even comparable to Starbucks. I am a frequent Starbucks goer and whenever I go, my order always contains a Strawberry Acai Refresher WITH lemonade (very important!) Nothing in the world fuels my crippling sugar addiction quite like this drink. I happen to be a huge lemonade enthusiast, but throughout my entire life, there literally hasn’t been one that even comes close to Starbucks.

     This drink is life. Every single sip feels like heaven. It is perfect for every single mood, every type of weather, and honestly, any day. I know the drink may appear a bit girly out the outside due to its coloring, but I have no issues walking into school with it. In fact, I OWN the fact that I walk into school with that pink sugary drink, even though I get more glances than I can even comprehend.

     There are many people that think Starbucks is overrated - I used to be a part of that crowd. However, there really is something there for everyone. I used to try to follow the trends and get Frappuccino and coffee, both of which I didn’t like. It is only when I thought for myself and embraced my lemonade addiction that I truly found my home at Starbucks. If there is one thing to take away from this post, it would be to be yourself. Don’t follow trends you don’t like, do what you want!

    This is also my Starbucks order. It is the only drink I will get and it's the only reason why I like Starbucks, however I still think the store is overrated. But I do love the taste of the strawberry acai lemonade refresher and don't hesitate to get it whenever I go.

Leah Nagle - Week 3 - Pick a Poet (Rachel Long) - "Portent"

For my poetry blog post this week, I decided on a poem called, “Portent” by Rachel Long. Long is a leader of Octavia - Poetry Collective for Women of Color, located in Southbank Center, London. I enjoy her poems because she incorporates her culture and life experience, being a woman of color, into her poems. This makes her poems personal and deep.  In “Portent,” one of the main aspects that Long brings up is the idea of social class. She claims that it takes, “three hundred years, about thirteen generations, to change your social class” (lines 8-9) and because of this, she feels trapped. Things I Love to Do For my last blog (potentially), I thought it would be best to discuss things that make me the happiest. I feel that I have definitely talked about these subjects in one way or another because they are so important to me, but here I want to dedicate a post just to them. During school it is very hard to keep up with your physical and mental wellbeing, and therefore, doing things that keep us grounded are beyond helpful when things can become overwhelming. I have been working to stay active my entire life. I love riding my bike, going to the gym, and taking walks on or by the beach.
