Michael Hakim Week 2 - Video Games Aren't Fun Anymore

Is it just me, or are most video games just not fun to play anymore? Now, I am not against video games whatsoever. In fact, I absolutely love video games, and completely respect and understand those who do also. However, nowadays, video games just don’t hit the same anymore.

Gone are the days when I would eagerly wait to get out of school to go home and play my favorite video games. These days, I barely ever think about even turning on my console and booting up a game. It has been a bit sad to realize that my days of gaming are past their prime.

To tell you the truth, I honestly couldn’t tell you the full reason why video games aren’t fun for me, because it isn’t exactly the clearest to me. Aside from some sports games or very simple games on my phone, I barely play video games anymore. 2021 is probably the least I’ve gamed in a year since I started playing. It’s gotten to the point now where I’ve done everything I want to do in most video games, and I would much rather go out and do things in the real world. Instead of playing video games I love, today I am doing other things like working out, hanging out with friends, making music, and watching videos/movies. I feel like at the point I’m at right now in life, even if I’m not busy there are many other things I’d rather do. The time I used to spend playing video games (down time) I now spend watching interesting videos and learning new things.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy the occasional gaming session, but video games just don’t hit the same anymore. As someone who has adored video games from a very young age, it makes me sad that video games aren’t fun for me. I guess this is just growing up.

  1. I completely agree with you. Video games and even other kinds of games do not feel the same. To me, I always have an unconscious feeling of guilt when I do something unproductive because I could be doing something more important, and it ruins the activity. Now, I just try to make the most of my remaining free time before college and everything changes.
