Rosalie Weiss- Week 7- Midnights review

On midnight of October 21, 2022, Taylor Swift released her tenth album Midnights. This album was highly anticipated, with Swift teasing the titles of songs in the days leading up to the album's release. As a swiftie, I was very excited about the album, and now that it has been out for over a week, I have some very strong opinions that I am excited to share.

I love Taylor Swift and think she is one of the most impactful musicians of our time. That being said, I find that some of her songs contain lyrics or sounds that I don't like being there. Examples of this can be found in songs such as “New Romantics,” “I Think He Knows,” “Paper Rings,” “Gorgeous,” “Willow,” and many of the songs in Midnights. This isn't directed towards the “sexy baby” of “Anti-Hero,” but the voice changer thing of “Midnight Rain.” Honestly, Taylor is probably onto something and I just don't get it.

Aside from this, I thought Midnights was pretty good. I enjoyed seeing the similarities between the songs on the album and songs from her past albums, like how “Question…?” sampled “Out of the Woods.” As of right now, my favorite songs on the album are “The Great War,” “You’re On Your Own Kid,” “Lavander Haze,” “Karma,” “Snow On The Beach,” and “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve.” While I definitely like the album, it is probably one of my least favorite of hers, as truly nothing can compare to Speak Now, Lover, Folklore, or Evermore. Still, the album is very new, and my opinions may change as the album sinks in.

What did you think of Midnights?
