Adi Chaham week 9: “Police Make the Best Poets” by Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre

The poem, “Police Make the Best Poets” by Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre compares what a cop does when he arrests someone or gives them a ticket and the way the vast majority of poems are written. Throughout the short, sweet yet powerful poem, the author states every way how the arresting officer is like a poet. From giving a ticket and the use of juxtaposition, to how well-constructed the report/ticket is just like how a poem has a specific structure. The author further includes how just as precise as the police is with their “cuts: history, context, connections, trends” and basically everything necessary, a poem does the same by including only the necessary in as few as possible words. The significance of the title, “Police Make the Best Poets”, entirely describes the context of the poem.

Throughout the entirety of the author explaining how “Police Make the Best Poets'' by showing the relationship between the things a cop does when he arrests someone or gives them a ticket versus when a poet writes a poem, the author starts off each sentence by using the word “Note”. Personally, I’m not sure why the author particularly chose the word “note” out of any word but, I understand the reasoning for the repetition of the word to make the poem more powerful.

This poem, unlike the majority of Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre’s poems, is relatively short. After reading (or watching) almost all of Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre’s poems to see which I enjoy the most to write blog posts about, I believe that this one is the shortest one. While the others consist of several full paragraphs or even shorter paragraphs, this poem consists of 3 so-called paragraphs with paragraph one being 2 sentences, paragraph two being a bit longer with 4 sentences and paragraph 3 being just 2 lines.

Personally, I enjoyed the poem and thought it was sweet, not as tough as other poems and while it has a cool story behind it, it is still executed in the proper way.
